Watch patterns for the rotary cutter symbol.
|
|
Rotary-Cut Patches:
Patterns that include this symbol can be rotary cut in 1/8" increments. Use the dimensions given in the symbol to cut patches this shape. Patches given full size cannot be rotary cut within our 1/32" margin of error. Shaded patches illustrate how many can be rotary cut from the larger patch. White patches indicate discards.
If you wish to make full-sized templates of the diagrammed patches, use graph paper to draft the measurements given, noting that seam allowances are included.

Full-Size Templates:
Full-size templates are given for patches that cannot be rotary cut easily and accurately using common ruler measurements. We give seam lines (dashed) as well as cutting lines (solid) for full-sized pieced patterns. The points are trimmed so the seams of adjoining patches line up for machine stitching when cut edges and trimmed points are aligned.
If we give half of the pattern piece, the center line is indicated with a dotted line. When making the template, trace around the pattern, flip the tracing over and align the dotted center lines. Trace around pattern again to complete the template.

|
Reversed Patches:
A pattern letter followed by an "r" indicates a reversed patch. If instructions call for 8A and 8Ar, mark 8 A, turn the template over and mark 8 Ar patches.

|
Pressing Indicators:
These tabs indicate the direction to press the seam allowances.

|
Appliqué Templates:
No turn-under allowances are given on appliqué patterns. Add 3/16" by eye when cutting.

|
Binding:
The number of binding strips to cut and their dimensions are given for straight-grain, double-fold binding.
