QuiltersVillage Sampler Quilt
PART FOUR ASSEMBLY
quiltersvillage.com

The fourth part of the Village Sampler Quilt involves piecing the "section strips" together, appliquéing the bushes in place, and attaching the borders.

PART FOUR ... PIECE/FABRIC CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS

BUSHES
We've designed four different sized bushes. Cut the following number of pieces for each size bush, using a variety of small-scale green prints and solids. Bushes Template Diagrams are available on Page 3 of Part 4, or if you wish, create your own shrubbery shapes.

Bush number 1... cut 13
Bush number 2 ... cut 3
Bush number 3 ... cut 2
Bush number 4 ... cut 1

PREPARING BORDERS
Prepare your border strips according to the following directions. Do not cut the length of the border strips until after the "house section strips" have been sewn together and completed patchwork has been measured (see Page 4). The following is the fabric identification and "width" measurement information for each of the borders.

Bone Fabric - First Border (inner) ... cut strips 2" wide
Red Fabric - Second Border (middle) ... cut strips 1 1/2" wide
Navy Print Fabric - Third Border (outer) ... cut strips 6" wide

The first and second border strips will need to be pieced together to make them long enough for the quilt top. Unless you are using a striped fabric, piece the strips together using a 45° angled seam. The diagonal seam will be less noticeable than a straight seam. Using Diagram 1-A, 1-B, and 1-C as a guide, complete the following steps for piecing a 45° angled seam:

Step 1. Layer right sides of strips together. Draw 45° angle line from top left to bottom right. Use points where strips crossover as a guide for drawing the line. Sew directly on the line.

Step 2. Cut away excess fabric leaving a 1/4" seam allowance.

Step 3. Press to one side.

SEWING SECTION STRIPS TOGETHER
Matching "grass fabric seams" (see Diagram 2), pin sections together and sew 1/4" seam allowance.
