ATTACHING BORDERS
To determine the length of your side border strips, measure the quilt
top vertically, along each side, and in the middle (see Diagram 6). Add
these three measurements together and divide by three. The averaged number
will be the length measurement for the side border strips. Cut First Border
side strips 2" x averaged measurement. Mark center on each strip
and on each side of the quilt top. Match center marks (see Diagram 6-A).
Align and pin end of strip with each corner edge of quilt top. Pin layers
together, easing in any fullness. Sew strips to quilt top.

Repeat these measuring, pinning and sewing steps to add
the top and bottom border strips to the quilt top. (see Diagram 7 and
7-A).

Use this same method to attach the Second and Third border
strips (see Assembly Diagram), and avoid any 'ripples' in your borders.
Refer to Part 4 - Page 1, Preparing Borders for strip widths. When finished,
the quilt top will be squared with any fullness located within the patchwork
area. Except in extreme cases , the quilting process will eliminate the
fullness.
