Step 3) Using paper template as a guide, cut out Piece #1. The left side and top will be cut to size. However, cut 1/4" away from the bottom of the template, resulting in a 1/4" extension of fabric extending beyond the paper. See Diagram IV and V.

Step 4) Place assembled drawing on top of lightweight interfacing. Using edge of assembled drawing as a guide, draw a line on the interfacing around the perimeter of the drawing. Set drawing aside. Remove freezer paper from sky fabric. With right side up, place fabric along the upper line previously drawn on the interfacing. Pin in place. (Tip: Using fine, flat head, straight pins, prevents distortion when working with the overlay.) Keeping interfacing flat, baste fabric and interfacing together along upper edge and right side. Pin lower edges of sky in place. (Diagram VI) Do not applique edges.
