Years ago, when I began working on this collection of quilting sites with fellow web designer Mary Mason, the client deemed that we should include a promotional email blast in the web activities. That original "blast" demand seemed a tad too commercial, a bit too harsh, for the quilt-friendly village site concept that was unfolding from our phone conversations. So we revised the "blast" until it became a note or a letter, from one quilting friend to another.
We decided to share the letter writing responsibility, and late one night, I came up with the idea of signing the letters as "Emily," since that name could be interpreted as "M-and-me," which could stand for "Mary and me" or "Missy and me," whoever happened to be writing at the time. (Ah, yes, my secret identity is almost revealed!)
As it turned out, only one of us ended up being "Emily." Every other week, for a number of years now, I've settled myself in a comfy chair with a cup of hot tea, pencil and paper, and written a letter to my friends. Some letters got laughs, others drew tears, and in a round-about way, all had something to do with quilting.
As sometimes happens, the client's needs have changed, and my "Emily Era" has come to a close. Starting with the next letter, a new quilting friend, Jenni, will be writing to you, and I hear there is an office full of web workers diligently designing new and improved web sites. Like you, I'll be excited to see the results.
I am off to other adventures. I'm not quite sure what the future may hold, but I hope that it's creative and fun. And you can bet that it will include quilting.
